In clinical practice, chronic pain conditions such as Complex Regional Pain Syndrome (CRPS) are very challenging. The condition, formerly known as Reflex Sympathetic Dystrophy, was believed to be caused by the overactivity of the sympathetic nervous system. The condition most frequently affects the extremities, but it can also affect any area of the body. The patient experiences signs and symptoms of pain, swelling, vasomotor and sudomotor dysfunctions.
